THE BIG NEWS!!!! And a FAB Starbucks give-a-way!!!

It's TIME! What's the big deal? What's up? Nouvelle Vie Photography is ALL NEW! Well, except for me, haha! After a few years of shooting under the NVP name, and after several years of prayer, AND after several years of "What's the name again?" "How do you spell that?" etc... I have decided to rebrand myself and my business. I am now...drum roll please...

"SPARROW'S HEART PHOTOGRAPHY"!!!

"Why in the world would you go through all that trouble," might you ask? I'm glad you did, I'd LOVE to share :)

When I started this company, it was because a precious friend asked me to take pictures of her 3mth old little girl. She offered to pay me and we (I and my gorgeous book keeper/hubby) wanted to do this the right way, legally. I came up with a name, "Nouvelle Vie Photography", very quickly and really had no clue who I was in all this yet. I mean for heavens sakes, I had JUST started! All I knew was that Christ had blessed me and brought me "new life" in a multitude of ways (ergo "New Life Photography") and hey, who doesn't love French stuff?!?!

I've been on a soul search for about the last year or so and realized that even as NVP, a little sparrow has always seemed to find it's way to having a presence in the things I've done (check the watermarks). I knew that God was in control and He has been sooooo faithful to me and my family over the years, all I could think about were several scriptures that embodied how I felt...

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.

So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

Many of you know the struggles we have had with starting businesses in a lousy economy, the loss of my father, the loss of some very dear friends, fires (ugh) and just all around life stuff. These verses have been such a huge comfort for me. I knew that a "sparrow" had to be a part of the new name and because this is my "heart", well... now you know :) AND the fact that people can actually spell it...

Kiss n' Tell: Hannah "Golden Hour"

The same evening I took the previous image of the squirrel, I had a few friends coming by to get a quicky family shot for his website (will post soon). I wanted to test the light in this one spot so I grabbed my son first (but honestly, a teen boy in a field of flowers isn't exactly what I was going for), took a few shots, then my big girl drove up from work and I hauled her over there. The light was to DIE for and I made her sit for about 5 minutes so I could get some settings on her. Unfortunately my sweet friends didn't make it in time for that golden glow in that particular spot, but I'm sooooo glad I snagged a few of Hannah. That is my dream spot now!!!

(I don't know why, but this looks grayish compared to the after below, they are the SAME image!!!
The one below is the true tone of the image. WEIRD! Anyone else see it? Anyone else have this same problem?)

I was only going to post the finished image and then I had an idea... I haven't done a "kiss n' tell" for a while so I thought I'd share a teeny overview of the process. I figure that most people out there don't realize just how fantastic our eyes and minds were created and how hard it is to get the camera to replicate what we see. Here's the B and A
.

I've broken this down into three sections.

First is the image, as taken... "Straight Out Of Camera" or SOOC as we like to say. This was taken in RAW so I was able to clean it up a bit before my final edit. The second image is the "clean edit". As you can tell, the image was a bit under exposed and the white balance was off. I leave the WB on auto but it's only a camera... it's known to make mistakes.

Now comes the fun part :) The clean edit is a wonderful shot of my girl but it's amazing what a difference a special touch can make. I used "Paint the Moon's" action, Fairy Floss Pop. I did some adjusting on a few layers and "VOILA!".

So, in short, I LOVE to create the images I see in my head. The camera helps but I like to take it a bit farther and really make each image special. This is one reason why custom photography costs more than a chain store. Hope this blesses someone out there as you get a little peek into my world :)

Golden Squirrels and Fluffy Hours

Things have been so topsy turvy with my schedule. I've even started walking with a friend and despite some occasional missed joint walks, God has faithfully encouraged me to take my kids and go if she can't. Going just for a few days has been such a blessing, I'm seeing the benefits everywhere. Joy, peace, better sleep, better mood, better eating choices, even more productive work. Any weight loss would be an added benefit. Everything else is just such a fabulous boost for me, if nothing else, those make it worth it.

The other evening, the kids and I went out and just enjoyed the beautiful spring weather we'd had. I haven't been walking with my camera much but I did take it this time.

There is nothing better than fluffy squirrels and that GORGEOUS golden hour! I declare, I think God gave me the best little place ever. The way that sun hits and disperses into the evening sky, in my neighborhood, is so stunning it takes my breath away.

So here's to golden squirrels and fluffy hours and everything turned right from a topsy turvy world.Thank you Jesus for Your creation, Your joy and Your peace :)

Marble Falls Highschool Project Graduation: Valentine's Day Benefit

Since Hannah is graduating this year, I am on the Project Graduation committee (I actually agreed to be secretary, don't gasp those of you that know me!) and we have been diligently working all year to earn money to give our incredible grads a FANTASTICO drug and alcohol free graduation party! It's going to be at Incredible Pizza in San Antonio and we're so excited!!! It's gonna be a BLAST!

One of the MANY things we have been working on is our Valentine's Day Benefit. The venue, Cadillac Bar at Dos Conchos Ranch, graciously donated by Eddie and Dale Shell, was the perfect spot. All the BBQ and fixin's, deliciously donated by Peete's Mesquite BBQ, filled our bellies. Cakes donated by Walmart in Marble Falls were the perfect finish! During dinner, Larry Page from KBEY Radio, 103.9, DJ'd for us and did a great job :)

You'd think that after all that amazing food, we wouldn't be able to dance, but you'd be dead wrong! Once Corporal punishment and The Charly Sardo Band started playing, the place began shakin'! Line dancing, swingin', you name it... the crowd had a blast! Especially the CUTEST couple I've ever seen, and had the joy of meeting at HCF the next day when he was baptized at almost 80yrs old!

There were loads of other special activities available as well. Personalized Valentine's could be purchased and read aloud from the stage, roses and carnations were available to purchase for that special someone and you could even purchase a ticket to win a 10pt marquise diamond, incredibly donated by American Gold & Silver (who will also be helping us with another endeavor soon!). One unanimous donor gave a check for $500! A rough estimate of earnings? $4,000!!!!!!! What a blessing!!!

Despite the bitter cold, tons of fabulous people came out to support our local school. To all of you that came, to all of you that donated your time, to ALL of you that donated your time (GO MFHS Seniors and parents!), your services, anything and EVERYTHING... WE LOVE YOU! Thanks from all of us at Project Graduation!

I sit here, on a bitterly cold, drizzly, cloudy day having just driven home from church with sleet (or "snow" as we frozen-fluff starved Texans like to call it) hitting our windshield. Yep, we have a cold front. Funny enough, the other FEW snow times we've had seem to pop up right around Valentine's Day. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE spring here, when we get enough moisture and I think we have this year. The one thing I'm praying for though... just one pretty snow. I want snow! The last time we had a glimmer of it, no sooner did we finish school and grab the camera to go play in the minuscule amount, it turned to rain and dissolved all happiness that day.

It amazes me that just yesterday we had a sunshine wrapped, crisp air kind of day, and today, freezing cold and drizzly. Texas may be bipolar where her weather is concerned but at least she does it with a "spring" in her step ;)

(P.S. The Reveal, I'm excited to say, is still coming :) Just later than I had planned, lol!)

Falling Rocks and Other Freak Accidents...

Here I sit... jaw dropped, stunned, and in silence. Frozen, dibilitated, humiliated, crushed, saddened, dumb-struck, broken, grieved and disheartened with a single tear, finding its way down my flaming red cheeks, swiftly to be followed by many, MANY more.

What happened? Why the drama? Why the extreme emotion? Why the exorbitant use of adjectives? My big reveal.... put on hold. Why? Due to technical difficulties and completely unforseen circumstances, my reveal... is officially remanded until future notice.

One little thing, just one eentsy, weentsy, teensy little thing... Something, that I had no way of knowing could happen, just did and it has turned my entire world upside down. I wish there had been one of those "WATCH FOR FALLING ROCKS" signs, cuz I just got crushed by a BIG one!

I know that life continues and tomorrow is a new day. I can start fresh, I know this. God is good and incredibly faithful. I know He has promised good out of all of it. And honestly, I just CAN'T wait to find out what it is!

Oh ya, any prayers you may offer up, gratefully accepted!

Llano High School: Senior ~ Wesley

When Wesley's mom shared with me that he was in theatre (ya I know, "theater" for we Americans but the other way seems so much more legit, haha) and wanted to continue his education in NY, in hopes of being in television, I had two thoughts...

Yay and DBL YAY!!!! I loved everything she told me about him :D (yep, Wesley... she even told me about the birthmark... I'M KIDDING!) I knew that his over 6ft frame would give my short 5ft (plus a tad) frame a challenge but nothing an extremely high heeled boot and a good ladder couldn't help with (insert lots of prayer for stability here too).

He was SOOOOO much fun, right off the bat! We were cracking up immediately, he's such a hoot, TOTALLY my kind of person :D Wesley is one of those that I would consider to be a "Jack of all trades". In a band, sings, plays guitar, drums, acts, golfs... yep, I think I will nickname him Jack. He's quite the debonair young man (a word he'll never forget... EVER, haha!!!).

We may have the next George Clooney or Jerry Sienfield right here in the Highland Lakes, people. And to think.... I got to take his senior pictures! WHOOP WHOOP!!!!!

Wesley, I'm bringing an 8x10 glossy for you to sign :D It'll be worth big money someday!!!

The flutter of wings whispering by, the sparkle of fairy dust gracing a magical path.... houses of twigs, beds of leaves and walnut shells, a fairy alights upon the tiny home prepared for her by Mistress Emily, keeper of the Enchanted Forrest and all things lilliputian.

What a delightful time Emily and I had at Backbone Valley Nursery's "Build your Own Fairy Garden" children's program. They are hosting one again, this Saturday, January 14th at 4pm! GO!!!! And check out their future lectures, for both adults AND kiddos alike :D

New Year, New Techno Abilities...

It's a new year and there is so much happening already! I'm attempting to get so much more techno savvy so here you go... my first blog from my Droid, haha! (Sorry about the lousy pics)

The Master bathroom (our second bathroom, yes...5 people in one bathroom can be a challenge), after starting about two years ago, now has a genuine shower and tub! Complete with tile and grout!!!

Shakin' Up the New Year!

Haven't blogged for a while but I must say I do have a VERY good reason! I am toiling over something that's been in the works, in my head at least, for a long time. The reveal will be soon! Yes, miracles do happen.

I'm sooooo ECSTATIC on how it's all coming together!!!! Even moved to tears on many occasions (realizing now, that could either be from EXTREME excitement, or EXTREME exhaustion).

While I've been in the process of shakin' up my New Year with my BIG launch, my precious girl decided to bless me with a Strawberry Banana milkshake :D LUV HER!

It has definitely been one of the strangest holidays by far. Lots of emotions running around my house. Those of teenage heartbreak (hurt and forgiveness), memories of loved ones lost (both past and present), the EXTREME joy of blessing upon blessing, the rampant gathering of pumpkin, sugar and spices, the flurry of ribbons and packages and tape and scissors and tissue

paper, all to come to this... Him. Just Him. Nothing more, nothing less. Him.

I tend to loose that sometimes. The simplicity of it all.

The pure, sweet, gentle, calm, simplicity of... Him.

May Jesus pour His peace over you no matter what your situation is this holiday. May He give you such quiet peace and wrap His love around you so snugly this season that, well...

that it just plain boggles your mind.

What are the odds?

What are the odds, that we pray for rain all spring and summer, only to get nothing. Nada, ziltch, not a drop, absolutely nuttin. We arrive at our fall season, continuing to pray for rain and what do we get? Nuttin', unless it's a day that I want to take the fam out to get a family pic, lol!!!! I want that elusive, glorious golden hour but it just ain't happenin' with the cloudiness we've had lately.

The great thing about it though... this is cocoa drinkin' weather and that my friends, is a glorious thing! We don't normally get to wear sweaters here until January 31st and we pack them back up around Feb 2, haha! It actually feels like Christmas here in the hill country :) Enjoy whatever weather you are having today, give glory to God for it ALL! Oh, and have some cocoa with the fam and don't take ANYTHING for granted, we have a lot to be thankful for!

Many of you have seen a plethora of images of my oldest child. Hannah has graced my blog many times, the most popular of course being her prom pics. Such a modern day Cinderella she was! She's a gorgeous girl and even as I'm typing this, she's probably in the other room, texting someone that is hoping for more than a friendship. Amazing how they start coming out of the woodwork when "single" becomes the status. Ugh!

She has a good head on her shoulders and knows that with college around the corner, a relationship is out of the picture (you go gurl!). Not that any of them would actually see and read this, but if they do, they should consider themselves dually warned, haha ;) (Hannah, if YOU read this, just remember, Jesus says you HAVE to forgive... especially if it's your momma!)

Well, some of you have also seen a glimpse here and there of our son and youngest daughter too. I can't tell you how any people comment on HOW much Emily looks "JUST like Hannah!" I was rummaging through the hard drive, frantically searching for images to use in the grans Christmas calendars when I came across some of Em.This one isn't the right direction so I can share w/o ruining the gran surprise, but...

The mechanic with the broken car...

One thing that breaks my heart the most, is the fact that I have become the mechanic with the broken down car in his driveway; the lawn guy with an overgrown, dead, patchy lawn, and the photographer that doesn't have any of her own pictures processed and hanging on her walls.

Scoping through the hard drive tonight, trying to find pics of the kids to use for the grans annual Christmas calendars, and what do I find???? Pictures from LAST Christmas that have yet to be processed and posted :( Waaaaah!

I decided to take a mini-break from processing my precious client photos to play for a few minutes on one of mine.

I recently purchased a texture action and texture pack from Florabella and decided my teddy bear pic(s) were the perfect thing to try it out on :D

I LOVE this action! It makes applying texture EASY and adds several adjustment layers to play with and tweak :) AWESOME!

Thanksgiving and Giving Thanks...

I'm praying that everyone's Thanksgiving was a beautiful one :)

Mine didn't quit turn out the way I had planned unfortunately. Got sick (possibly bronchitis), BEYOND major traffic to see the in-laws, haven't really slept much for the last few days (cuz I got sick), missed Black Friday with my girl (cuz I got sick), my girl got her heart broken (which in turn broke mine), and I couldn't even hardly taste the turkey (cuz I got sick).

BUT!!! I sit here tonight, looking at all that has happened, choosing to let go, choosing to forgive, getting better and most of all giving thanks because God has answered a ~~big~~ HUGE prayer of mine! He is faithful and He cares. I'm so grateful that I am "worth more than many sparrows".

Maybe it's just me, but when I hear the words "horse" and "girl" together, I immediately invision "cowgirl". That term leads me to cowboy hats, wranglers and somewhat of a ~~rougher~~ tougher attitude. Boy was I EVER wrong!!!

Jordy is the blingiest, funnest, ~~cowgirl~~ GIRL I've ever met!!! She's gorgeous, with her beautiful almond eyes, perfect skin, stunning smile and has a BLING-A-LICIOUS funky style that I ADORED! And Cypher, oh HEAVENS don't get me started on that horse....

...can.you.say MAG-NI-FI-CENT!!!

We did a BFF session with Jordy and added her brother into the mix, getting some for Christmas cards and the like... Caleb the BF joined in the fun for a few shots as well :)

What a BLAST! Yep, even reluctant Jett had me cracking up :D

She, quiet and beautiful... gentle and sweet... with a glimmer in her eye that hints at her lighthearted and jovial side. He, larger than life, with his powerful stance, his raw yet boyish honesty, and his vigorous love for her... BEYOND evident! For her, love goes hand in hand with the ease and fun of life together. For him.... simply put, he just can't live without her.

Let it be known that I have officially witnessed the most adorable couple ever! Courtney is the kind of daughter, granddaughter, friend and now wife that gets smothered in kisses wherever she goes and by whomever she knows. Seth most assuredly TREASURES his bride and could barely let go of her to catch his own breath ;)

I had the hardest time deciding whether to showcase their immense love for one another or their absolutely hilarious, playful side. So... I did both :D

This session is sorta kinda top secret, so I've only been cleared to post one for the blog and after Christmas cards go out, the rest may come then ;) Let's just say this family has to be the most real, down to earth crew I've photographed yet! What fun! I just LOVE to laugh and they had me ROLLING! Yes, ROFL would be a good term to insert here. Really, I'm NOT just saying that!

This morning was a BLESSEDLY cool event! My boy wanted a fire so badly! Well, number one issue... gotta do school. Number two issue.... no fire wood. Number three issue.... can you say D-R-O-U-G-H-T? Burn bans stink! So, we did the next best thing ;) We had ourselves a "Texas Fire" (pronounced "Tex-us Fur").

That good 'ole "Texas Fire" (are you pronouncing it properly?!?), a cozy couch, a mug of cocoa, and a fluffy, ADORABLE pup.... THIS goes our top 10 reasons to homeschool ;)

Some of you may wonder why I don't have OODLES and OODLES of pics of my kids. I probably have a decent amount of my eldest child, she's graduating this year and for the most part, she doesn't mind getting her pic taken. She definitely HAS to be in the mood though!

Well, thought I'd share a little glimpse into my life and my attempts... feeble as they may be.

The other day I wanted to get some of my son. YES, he needs a haircut, I acknowledge this, so no comments please (on the hair that is ;). Anyhoo, wanted to have some rim light on his hair, bokeh, etc, all the good stuff. Golden hour was upon us, I saw the set up and ran home to grab the camera. We had been shooting hoops so I thought he'd be chill enough, ya right! I couldn't get a serious face out of him to save my life! End result: got this instead... feeble yes, true to character... MOST DEFINITELY! Guess I got more than I bargined for ;)

My adorable youngest daughter amazes me sometimes. She is an incredible artist and LOVES bright colors! She is a mini-me in how she sees the world (poor kid, right?!). She is sensitive, colorful and fun. I just LOVE that about her :D We have been struggling with her school lately and God has provided the change that we need so badly. She is beyond excited and seeing her joyful.... that's music to my ears!

Finally Fall and a Few of My Own....

It feels like an eternity since I shot anything for myself and blogged anything for myself. I've missed my photog walks. The weather here has been so horrrid, dry and crackly dead that I have been rather amiss in my desire to even enter the abyss know as "Texas Summer".

We have finally gotten some drenching, refreshing rain and along with it, some glorious temps! It's finally fall :D

One of my favorite things about this time of year is our local pumpkin patch, "Sweet Berry Farm". This is a simply glorious place to do family photos. In the fall, they have beautiful patches of zinnias to pick, pumpkins to buy and paint, haystacks and goats, and the fav.... face painting! My daughter enjoys this job and does a fabulous job. She and the other facepainters she works with get to paint each other to show off their talents to the hundreds of parents and children that visit.

I blogged about one of my all time favorite designs Hannah showed up with one year, here. Today she came home with some asian symbols and I just had to take some pics :) Finally! I shot something for me and actually blogged it the same day!!! Shock of all shocks, I know. It sure feels good :D

Especially not ones as grand and glorious as "A Sunny Place."

My beloved friend, Sunny Parker, is in the process of selling her stunningly FAN-TAB-U-LOUS home. It is a Texas retreat like non-other. Perfectly suited to anyone from a retired couple looking for the perfect spot to entice their children and grandchildren for frequent visits, the family desiring a quiet country lifestyle, or to the individual seeking investment property.

This is one of those picturesque places that you want EXACTLY the way you see it, even down to the leather couches, rawhide rugs and rustic decor. And believe it or not, it CAN be available EXACTLY as you see it :D

The best of both worlds! While the home is located in a beautiful country setting it's within 5 minutes of Marble Falls shopping. The entrance includes an automatic solar powered gate and a cattle guard to prevent pets and livestock from reaching the road.

The home is located on 10 acres of agriculturally exempt property. The exemption has been approved by the county to be switched to "wildlife" at any time. Even if you'd prefer not to have livestock you can still have the tax benefit. The entire 10 acres is surrounded on three sides by a large working ranch, providing exceptional privacy. The house itself is nestled between mature oak trees and has a large beautiful lawn that has been well cared for.

A tranquil pond has been built and well stocked. Bass, catfish, perch, and talapia are all thriving. The 15 foot deep pond is fed automatically by the second well on the property. A foot bridge has been constructed to an island in the pond that is tree shaded and has rocking chairs placed strategically to enjoy the view of the lighted fountain.

There's even a family of Canadian geese that call the pond "home".

The majority of the exterior doors are weather resistant fiberglass which give the desired wood grain look, without the upkeep of natural wood. The doors that include glass panels have built-in blinds in the glass for dust free, damage free light control.

The second story consists of two master suites and a loft/office, complete with eco-friendly cork flooring.

The original master suite has two standard closets, and an en suite bathroom. Done in natural slate and sporting a huge walk-in shower with 3 shower heads, each fed from its own separate water line. All water is heated by a tank-less hot water heater powered by propane.

The second master suite was constructed from the original two smaller bedrooms (easily changed back) and has a custom built amazing walk-in closet.

The bathroom just off the hall from the second master is done in natural slate with a built-in vanity and a two person, extra deep jacuzzi tub.

The second story deck (accessible via both bedrooms and the loft area) wraps the entire length of the back and side of the house. It provides a beautiful view of both the pool and the pond. It has a large seating area, picnic table, stereo and television cabinet, and includes an eight person hot tub.

Back inside on the lower level, you'll find the rustic decor eye catching and delightful.

The house is completely wired for satellite/cable throughout the home and entertaining areas outdoors.
The windows throughout the house are energy efficient double-paned windows and include energy efficient custom window treatments.

There are 2 automated Solo Pet doggie doors, the best automated pet door money can buy. They are constructed of unbreakable lexan clear panels, which open and close via magnets worn on your pet's collar, preventing unwanted entry by critters.

The downstairs flooring is a unique stamped concrete designed to resemble wood flooring, all the beauty yet none of the upkeep. There are custom built cabinets throughout the house, with built-in pull out shelves on all lower cabinets and the entire pantry to maximize usable space. There are hammered copper sinks throughout the kitchen and baths, with the kitchen sink being an over-sized single section sink, designed for easy washing of large items. The appliances are 6 years new. They include a 5 burner smooth top cook top, double ovens, microwave, ice maker, and an over-sized all-refrigerator and all-freezer side by side combination. The kitchen has a solid surface counter top and beautiful custom rock back splash.

The laundry area has a raised washer and dryer platform with custom drawer space beneath, and deep cabinets designed to hold full sized laundry sorting baskets, keeping all laundry sorting chores hidden from view. The "powder room" off the laundry area is actually a full bath with shower.

The bunkhouse includes a custom designed bar that seats eight and game area with four built in bunk beds, sleeping eight total. The game room currently houses a full sized custom built cedar pool table, full sized air hockey table, arcade basketball, electronic darts, and a poker table.

Straight off the bunkhouse, you have easy access to the pool and outdoor entertainment areas.

The custom built pool was constructed with a unique stamped concrete patio surround. It's features include a rock waterfall, beach front style entrance designed for easy entry and cool sunbathing, a dark pebble finish allows for a quick natural heating from the sun and provides a smooth yet non-slip surface. In addition to natural heating, the pool also has a system in place, powered by propane, so it can be used year round. Automatic timers control the vacuum system and waterfall feature.

There are five outbuildings on the property. Two of those buildings are large workshops that have been completely insulated, wired, and finished out to include air conditioning and lighting. One of them even has built-in work benches.

The only thing more incredible about this place is being there after the sun goes down!

Marriott Resort, Horseshoe Bay, TX; Little Miss L and her family, The Coles

One of the greatest joys I have is to meet new people. FABULOUS people :D People, that I feel, become friends for life. Marie and her family are just such people. She found me (lovin' the internet) and we finally found each other, at the Marriott Resort (my mental GPS doesn't like Round-a-Bouts!).

It was a photographers dream, hazy skies, luscious surroundings, a GORGEOUSO family to photograph and with the cuteness of a two year old to boot! Life is great! :D Of course, here in good ole Texas, hazy equals humidity and we felt it (sweat just goes where sweat just shouldn't go sometimes) :( Little Miss L wasn't none to happy about it either, lol! The goal; to capture the previously unattainable smile of Miss L (and some of the family too, lol). She played coy every which way but we finally got a peek of that adorable personality.

It was a blast to meet ALL of you (yep, grans came too :). What lovely assistants you were and I loved hearing the fascinating details of how the resort came to be and the hundreds of rose bushes that bloomed there many years ago.

Marie... GURL, you give the BEST hugs!!! SOOO glad we found each other :D

We actually shot inside the putting green at the resort. OH MY! Was it ever lush and vibrant!

I got there early to scope things out (soooo glad I did, totally enjoyable!) and the minute they got there, I was greeted with a MONSTER hug! I LOVED it!!!!

She really is soooo darn cute isn't she?!?!?!


She decided she was done, even though we had hardly begun, lol! Little did she know that she had actually placed herself in the BEST spot possible! Thanks to Dad for his HUGE efforts to get some giggles, it paid off!

I have secretly been DYING to capture an Anole Lizard with his throat fan! YAY!!!

Kerrville, TX: Sarah & Ryan

On a bright and VERY sunshiny day, as the temperature rose, so did the excitement. Sarah, quiet but bold, excited but calm, waited with baited breath to marry the man she knew was to be hers for a lifetime. "It seems like a dream" she stated many times over. He was there for her. Through it all, thick, thin and everything in between. Life has it's ups and downs and sometimes, those downs seem more frequent than the ups. "He stuck. No matter how hard it got, he stuck with me. He's honest and he loves me. That's all I've ever dreamed of, someone to love me [just like that]." I admire her honesty. It's not often that this and a deep rooted faith are the most important qualities one seeks after.

This gentle spirit, sweet and loving attitude is what drew him to her. She was different than anyone he knew. In fact, when they finally met in person, he had a feeling deep inside that THIS was the one! Love at first sight seems like such a cliche, love at first site.... is becoming more common. No matter what you call it, no matter how you find it, it is something to be cherish and held onto. "I prayed... He heard and He answered," simply stated, heart felt and truer than any other statement he could have made. I think I see what Sarah means. Honesty is a fabulous trait :)

These two are beautiful together and share a love that can hold fast. They are tethered by time, trial and trust. Trust in one another and trust in a power greater than themselves... Christ. With Him as the center and anchor, all things are possible. Especially when finding a mate, especially the one He exclusively designed... just for you ♥

Techno Babe Strikes Again :)

I LOVE technology! I mean it! Not in the, "I'm part of the Geek Squad and can ROCK your sox off with how smart I am," sorta way; but in the, "I LOVE gadgets and the stinkin' COOL stuff you can do with them," way! ;)

I'm a BIG fan of Facebook and email, cell phones and someday my very own IPad [crossing fingers and saving hard].... Today though, without spending hundreds of dollars and signing a three year contract in blood, I'm going to be able to take credit cards!

Now, bear in mind that I DON'T approve of debt and will never encourage anyone to go into debt. I do know, however, that most of us don't carry checks or cash all the time and sometimes, we just want the doggone points we can get by using our credit cards, WISELY! Got that last part??? Wisely! Listen to Dave Ramsey for help in that department. He'll tell you to cut them all up and only use cash, I agree. But I'm learning as a business owner, that not everyone does.

I hated the idea of big fees, boxes, batch processing, (we do ALL this with our pest control biz), and mostly... BIG fees! I found this AWESOME little doohickey (see, NOT geek squad material!) called... "The Square". I plug it into my phone, open the APP (yep, there's an app for that, haha) and voila! Swipe, done.

(Now, for any potential customers, please keep in mind that if you so choose to use the "credit card" option, not only is there an app for that, but there'll be a charge for that as well. The 3% (not bad) fee will be added to your bill. Sorry :( Like I said, if you can use cash or check, I want to encourage you to do so! Debt is stinky and can ruin your life.)

I love those moments when you just KNOW God has dipped His hand into the kettle of time, sprinkled in a few festive ingredients, stirred a little, simmered and tasted His amazing creation. The fragrance of His sovereignty is a powerful thing and I love relishing it.

It was by His design that this session came to fruition. A friend of a friend, of a friend, the right place, the perfectly right time and voila! A gorgeous family, amazing grans (one of which is in military school and was actually able to be there!), a blast of a grandma, and a view to die for! What a scrumptious combination!

Spicewood Vineyards

Kiss n' Tell: Homeward Bound style

Hey all! Haven't posted a kiss n' tell for a while so thought I'd do one on my recent action pack I got from Paint the Moon :)

I just purchased the Fresh Wonderland 2 set and decided to play a little. I never thought that Annie could get any better at what she does, but she has officially knocked my socks off.... again!

I started going through some archives and found some pics of our trip home from Maryland and New York... from CHRISTMAS! Ugh! A*N*Y*W*A*Y.... We had decided to drive all the way through the night with as little stopping as possible. Translated to a photographer... NO stopping to take pics.... WAH!!! I was in the primest (ok, so I'm using my own dictionary, sue me) country for barns, rolling hills, silos, and just plain gorgeousness touched by our Heavenly Creator and NO stopping! Kill me now! :( I decided to get creative (working on my problem solving talents) and see how I could capture stuff while flying down the highway at 70mph. No, I wasn't driving and shooting at the same time, though temptation did set in occasionally.

Well, caught this barn and wasn't thrilled with it SOOC (straight out of camera). I applied two actions and a texture! I could NOT believe how fast this changed!!! I LOVE it now! I even played a little bit more and added a verse and some birds, teehee! Photoshop.... some amazing stuff!

Thought it needed an aged feel so added "Time Worn" texture

Still felt like it needed a little pop.... that reminded me of the "Pop My Flare" action. One of the MAIN reasons I bought the set. I ran it, and adjusted the whole action (a new feature from amazing Annie!) by setting the opacity to 75%.

Added "Pro Edge Vignette", something I'm addicted to!!! Voila! LOVED it! It screamed for only two more things...

Archive Delight!

I haven't been shooting much the last month or two primarily because of hubby's surgery.... well, and the 100+ degree days don't lend themselves to beautiful scenery either, or the desire to even walk outside, ugh!

Well, because of this, I have been working on a project for my niece (indoors!) and was looking for a group of images I had taken a LONG time ago. I ran across a shoot I had with my 16 (almost 17 *gasp*) year old daughter. I have processed maybe one or two of them but it kinda got put on hold and honestly, I spaced it! I started looking through them and voila I found this!

We took this in Llano about a year ago. We head back that way to my FAVORITE shop, "A Rosy Outlook", and to our dental appointments :) this week. I am kinda glad I missed processing this. I was able to use my PSE9 and actions this time! Anyhoo, this is a TRUE pic of me with my ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, FANTABULOUS, I LOVE THEM SOOOOO MUCH, kids! :)

Nothing like taking a moment for yourself and doing something that you love! I think I love playing with pictures as much as I love taking them :D I haven't done much of either lately given our recent recovery process so I decided today was the day!

I pulled a few from the archives and had my own version of "recess". It felt soooo good! Ahhhhh! Nothing like a little "Me" time :D

I can't believe it's been so long since I've blogged!

I figured it was time for an update :) Hunny is doing well I am happy to report. It was a long 5 day stint in the hospital with severe reactions to meds :( He went cold turkey when we got home, had a few challenges, but he's moving along. We just had his two week, post-op, appointment and doc gave a big thumbs up!

The walking program consists of starting with 10 minutes a day. We walked some today and he's sooo sore! We will start with 5 minutes tomorrow I think. By the time his next appointment is here, a month away, he is to be walking 30 minutes every day. Even if it's 15 in the morning and 15 in the evening. Hard to believe that it's that slow, huh? It's going to take time I guess.

One thing I have to confess too.... I was prepared to get very frustrated having to care for a grown man. I can't tell you how AMAZING our God is! I have found an even GREATER love for my husband than I had before :D Isn't God FANTASTIC?!?!

There is always hope, peace and joy. In every situation, a silver lining. I pray this blog finds you seeking that out in whatever you may be facing this very minute.

I've had quite the month of May and it would seem that June is trying to compete with it just a tad. I know I've been a little quiet here lately and sorry to say, it's fixing to become quiet again.

My sweet, wonderful, precious, funny, GORGEOUS, loveable, husband has been experiencing EXTREME back pain since December. His legs go numb, all the way to the ankles and toes sometimes. We discovered he has an old spinal fracture that has caused his L5 vertebrae to slip out of place, slide forward and press on the nerve.

The answer.... surgery. I'm going to have a little moment of transparency here... I'm kinda scared. I know that our Heavenly Father is in control and I'm sooo glad He is. I just can't seem to ignore my humanness and not have a twinge of the butterflies. He will be in the hospital for 3-5 days and then lots of round-the-clock nursing from yours truly, for only God knows how long.

We leave tomorrow and the surgery is scheduled for Wed. If you think about us, please say a prayer. Peace, SWIFT healing, safety, peace.....

There is a place not far from here where fairies and princesses abide. They flit among the grasses, chatter with the creatures of the forest and dance around on sunbeams. It is a magical glen brimming with secret passages, flutters of wings, and sprinkles of gems in hidden gullies. It is just this such place that I perchanced a rendezvous with the most delicate of princesses. Her name? Princess Siki.

Princess Siki and I first met almost 2yrs ago. She was a teeny little whisper of a thing. What a thrill it has been to see her grow. In fact, you might say she became my muse. You can even see how her beauty has unfathomably increased (didn't think it possible) since some of our first visits.

We gathered diamonds, wrote secret messages in the dust and scampered after her silly subjects as they raced toward the bramble hedge. It was a joyous reunion. It is for these very moments that my heart carries its beat.

Thank you Princess Siki for our beautiful tryst in the glen!

She was quite unhappy with their seeming to bend to his will.

But as every good princess does, she held her own,was gentle to them and they chose to remain faithfully hers, though one did lose his life during the battle. ;)

We've all heard about high school sweethearts. Ones that are current and we are all waiting with baited breath to see what the future holds, the ones that dated and grew apart in college, the ones that married right out of high school, and then there are these. The ones that dated, broke up, then through a string of circumstances met once more, only to decide then and there that "this is the one".

The Craigens fall in the last category. Having reunited, she even purchased her dress before he ever asked. She just knew in her heart of hearts, the proposal would come. The love between these two, being developed and fine-tuned over the last seven years isn't one of "awwww, aren't they cute together" (while they TOTALLY ARE!). It's not a love that sits on the surface, shallow and lack-luster. It's a love, wrapped in the glory of God, who He, Himself, orchestrated the reunion and wedding and now covers the marriage. The love of these "high-school sweethearts" shows in their very faces and the faces of their three GORGEOUS children!

I had the beautiful pleasure of following them around in the park, along with her father and grandmother, visiting alllllll the way from California. How blessed am I that I get to mark this sweet moment in time for them all? Beyond!

And now, I simply MUST figure out a way to grow an orange tree here in the Hill Country.... Bethina..... OMGOODNESS!!!!!!! I'm in love!

Marble Falls, TX: Solorzano Children

What a tender time I got to have hanging out with the Solorzano children! They are the MOST precious kiddos!!!! Miss H, I discovered, is quite the Diva Princess, Mr. L slightly reserved but it doesn't last long, and lil Mr. G... Can you say... A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beginning with chasing bubbles, all three had a blast! Ducks nipping at bread held in tender, tenative hands, giggles galore arose from the lakeside park where we played for over an hour. Monkey bars, tunnels and swings... the joys and pleasures of children everywhere. For that evening, ours alone.

I thoroughly enjoyed every time Miss H would ask for me to take her picture in "this such pose" or "that such pose". Mr. L warmed my heart when he had to make sure I was coming with them to the jungle gym :) I LOVE these kids :D As our time wound down, Miss H said she simply MUST do one last pose..... Sleeping Beauty. And that she most certainly was! :D Luv ya my Diva Princess!!!

Marble Falls, TX: Harmony Performathon

What an amazing time I had last weekend. I was witness to one of the most spectacular, most beautiful, most fulfilling events possible. Our local, Christ-centered, performing arts school, Harmony School of Creative Arts, held their annual "Performathon". What is a "Performathon" you may ask? It is two days full of teachers and students, offering up their skills and talents in order to earn money towards the scholarship program at the school. All children and adults alike should be able to join in the joys of music, dance and other arts, regardless of financial ability. This... THIS makes that possible.

Hosting delicious local fare and a fabulous lakeside atmosphere, River City Grille housed the events on the first day. I must say, that potato thingy I had.... OMGOODNESSSSSS! Too scrumptious for words! Patrons enjoyed a delightful meal and were blessed to hear the musical renderings of many talented students and teachers alike. Strains of Beethoven and other composers filled the party room to overflowing.

Our second day was held at the Lakeside Pavilion, a lovely, scenic place, overlooking Lake Marble Falls, TX. The light pouring in gave a glow that lit up the face of every performer there. After several hours of rapturous talent, we were blessed to take part in a distinctively enjoyable spaghetti dinner, served by Harmony's finest. Ohhh, and we can't forget the CHEESECAKE! Delish!

The evening was rounded out via silent auction and the strains of a musical orchestra, to which, the event had to eventually come to an end. Congratulations to EVERYONE that participated, gave of your time and talent, may God bless your socks off for giving the gift of music to others!

Kiss & Tell: Golden Hour....

Ok, so I promised you another Kiss & Tell and this time it was on one of my FAVORITE images I've done yet! As you may recall, I posted a senior session a little while back and indicated that I had a ton of fun playing with a certain image. Well, here it is. If you guessed the sunglow one, either you are ingeniously smart, or you know me too well, haha :D

This is my FAV FAV FAV for several reasons! I have been after that elusive "golden hour" glow/sun flare for two years now (I started photoging in 2009). Gorgeous light and sunflare were some of the primary qualities I have been yearning for and have cried tears over. Often wondering if I really could do this whole photography thing because I just couldn't seem to grab hold of that gorgeous glow like others had. When you are self-taught, sometimes you are blessed to find a tutorial on some technique, and if you are REALLY blessed you may find another photoger willing to share their "secrets". In the area of sunflare and glorious glow, I haven't been so lucky. It's been try, try again, CRY, try, try again, CRY.... you get the picture, (haha, I love puns!) This time, I got to cry for joy! :D

We LITERALLY went out as the sun was going down. The Rebel would have NEVER let me get this image. The ISO range is lousy and my shutter would have had to compensate. Not good when there is wind or people that breath, lol! The 5D however.... :D gave me what I needed. SO! When people tell you that you don't need "better gear" they are only telling you part of the story. The photographer makes the image, yes.... BUT you can be severally handicapped by limited means. I hate to be the bearer of bad news peeps. I'm bummered and sorry but it's the truth.

When we got the shot I was jumping up and down (literally, just ask Alyssa.... she wasn't sure who was more excited, she or me!)!!! I couldn't believe I caught flare and SUN GLOW!!!!! Fast forward to uploading and I was saddened to see that it wasn't quite to my standards... yet. I knew I had good bones to work with though and was thrilled beyond belief when I got the final result!

I can't list out my exact steps (sorry, didn't even think about writing it all down, I was just sooo excited to play, lol!) but I'll give a sorta, kinda overview.

First things first, I had to deal with the lighting issue... she was WAY underexposed! Adjusting contrast, lighting, basic stuff then the fun began. I hated the road beside her :( And that dad-gum power line!!!! That HAD to go. So OFF with it's head :) Content aware, as always.... I LOVE YOU!!!!!! Fantastic on cleaning up those temporary blemishes and unsightlys ;) Little skin smoothing, then the BAM factor! I copied the image as a layer. Flipped it horizontally, did a layer mask and took off where she was. This took some time to get the right opacity on brushes, etc but eventually I got it to work. I didn't want it to be tell-tale so I took some of the extra leaves off the right side, took a reed out on the lower left (content aware!) and adjusted a few other spots accordingly. NOW, yes.... I didn't fix the top of the image. I know that you can see the "duplicity" of the image but I loved the "ray" affect it had and decided to leave it. Who knows, I may look back on this and think, "good grief!!!" but for now, I LOVE it and that's what matters, lol! I used an action to increase the vibrancy of the color around her, and then tried several different "sunlight" actions. I played for HOURS! The sun glow was my favorite so that's the one I posted :) Maybe I'll post the others at another time so you can see the difference actions can make.

Marble Falls, TX: Junior ~ Senior Prom, 2011

So last Saturday was PROM!!!

We had such a wonderful time with all our preparations :) Lynda at Head Games did a FABULOUS job on Hannah's hair and Holly Phillips is a rockin' Mary Kay friend that came over and gave all us girls a GORGEOUS makeover :) The little girls got such a kick out of that! Fun, fun, fun!!!!!

Some of you may not know this, but Hannah is one of God's very own miracles! She came down with the chicken pox only a week before. BAD case! Pretty darn serious. All in her mouth, throat, lungs (yes lungs!) covered from head to toe, BAD! If we hadn't gotten her on the antiviral immediately, she very well could have ended up in the hospital :( Even with the antiviral though, our doctor pretty seriously expressed that it would take a miracle for her to be scabbed over and not contagious in time for prom, a week from that Saturday. She was done by WEDNESDAY!!!!!! What a thrill! God answered our prayers and she doesn't have to worry about getting them later when they could be even worse!

We've had prom on the brain for months and now it finally came to fruition :) In fact, while I was setting up the photos in my head.... how I wanted to pose them, where I wanted to take the pictures, the story I was going to tell through the images, it dawned on me that it was eerily similar to what a wedding would be like. The detail shots of makeup, hair, shoes, dress, flowers, wanting to get a first look, a picture of them driving away.... that did it! My brain started going 90 to nothing real fast. I've been dealing with a whole ton of emotions with her almost graduating, dating, etc. SO! The rest of this blog, was born and written the day I planned the photos. It's my heart, just written a little early. And sorta kinda created as a "fictional" story of sorts with a tad of embellishment for emphasis, lol! So, Austin and the rest of the Sellers crew, don't panic if you read this, haha!

PROM and the musings of the MOM~

Hannah, my precious Hannah. So grown up. Sweet Sixteen and heading to her junior prom. Oh Lord, how did this happen so fast? It seems just yesterday I was standing outside in my slippers, as she, a timid 6yr old, found her way around that very same corner, heading to the bus stop. My baby is growing up, Lord. Please slow down time. Give me more. Next year, senior. Then college. Lord, my heart is getting squeezed again. I don't think I like it very much.

My little girl, so beautiful. So breathtaking! Stunningly dressed, putting Cinderella to shame, being escorted to the Black & White Ball. A precious young man at her side. Leading her down the road, around the bend, to a magical evening....

Her wave goodbye, as they drove away, brought forth the blast of a sudden, "grab your heart before it beats right out of your chest", vision.

Life... in fast forward....

A strong, yet gentle, adoring and dapper young man at the wheel. Leading a beautiful young woman, dressed in flowing white, a sequined up-do with a joy-filled smile on her beaming face. The light glints off the diamond, placed on the hand that is now delicately waving goodbye. She leans through the window, tendrils of hair whipping around, laughing and giggling, gracing us with one last, pageant wave.

I glance down, trying desperately to absorb the moisture burning my eyes. Wishing the tears away, I immediately force my gaze upward again, desperately seeking one last glance of my baby before I have to officially call her a woman. What greets me as her hand disappears back through the window? The words, "Just Married," scrawled in punctuated white letters and the clanging of cans jumbling down the road announcing her final departure around the bend. And then she's gone.

Can it be? Wasn't it just yesterday she was placed in my arms? Now I have to give her into the arms of another? Will he cherish her as we have? Will she forever be his first priority? Will he love her unconditionally as Christ calls him too? Will he lead her in the way God calls? Will he wash her in the Word? Will he die to himself for the love of his wife?

I can't stay here. I can't do this. I have to move forward as well. A new path, a new blessing. Another son :) And dare I say.... gran.... NOPE! Not gonna go there, not now, not this time. ;)

I call myself back to reality. "It's only prom," I say as I cross over the threshold and click the door in place behind me. "She'll be back by 1:00."

WOW! What a week :) And it's barely the beginning of May!

I am an incredibly BLESSED woman :D I started out this last week getting to do senior pics with one of my most talented students. She was in my photography class last year, at our home-school group, HEART Club. It was SO MUCH FUN! Not only is she a blast to take pics of, she's a blast to take pics WITH!

I had such a great time both during our session(s) and during post production. There is one image in particular, that I had a TON of fun playing with and it is my MOST FAVORITE IMAGE EVER! I will be sharing a "kiss n' tell" session about it later. I'm curious to see if you can figure out which one. :D

I know that the macro on here is pretty lousy (severely cropped from pic on left) but I HAD to draw your attention to the spots on the ladybug we found! I didn't notice them until I was processing the images, so no great macro shot but SWEET none-the-less!
